Sakartvelo (Georgia Republic)
Artist's Statement – Sakartvelo
This series of photographs explores the poetic beauty and layered histories of Sakartvelo, or the Republic of Georgia. In this landscape, time feels both expansive and intimate: ancient stone villages cling to misted hillsides, Byzantine churches echo with centuries past, and rivers and mountains carry both memory and myth.
Through the lens, the subtle rhythms of daily life and the quiet resonance of place are captured. A morning in a remote village, the warm glow on weathered walls, or the reflective stillness of a mountain valley becomes a visual poem, connecting viewers to the sensory and spiritual essence of Sakartvelo, translating moments into a language that is both lyrical and contemplative and revealing the interplay of light, texture, and shadow that conveys the intangible: history, memory, and lived experience.
This exhibition invites audiences to engage deeply with Sakartvelo—not only as a geographic or historical entity, but as a space of human presence and poetic resonance. By illuminating both the monumental and the everyday, this work fosters reflection, empathy, and wonder, offering a contemplative lens through which to encounter the profound beauty of this extraordinary land.
Working in partnership with the Navsakudeli Guest House in Ude, Republic of Georgia, we bring students to this extraordinary land to help study and preserve its native culture.
